Home School Day
Our monthly Homeschool Day serves homeschool families and small homeschool co-op groups. Join us as we engage in hands-on art-making and investigative processes connected to art on view in the permanent collections and special exhibitions at the Montclair Art Museum. Children can get creative while connecting with friends. Themes change monthly, and include a studio art project and a gallery visit led by teaching artists. Two age-appropriate studio projects are offered each month, one for younger children ages 9 and under and another for older children ages 10 and up, with flexibility to accommodate siblings. Children ages 9 and under must be accompanied by an adult onsite.
For ages 9 and younger:
Join us as we look at the special exhibition Impossible Shadows: The Art of Larry Kagan and explore KAgan's process. We will discuss Op Art (the art of optical illusions) and create a 2-dimentional abstract drawing that, with the addition of color, will appear 3-dimentional.
For ages 10 and up:
Inspired by the broadly brushed oil paintings of George Inness in the George Inness Gallery, we will draw outside on the Montclair Art Museum's grounds with dry pastels to capture the changing season, incorporating natural material from the grounds.
3rd Thursday of the month, September through June
$6 per child for family-level members and above
$12 per child for nonmembers
